Viborita
Unconventional, uninhibited and sharply ironic, Viborita was one of Pepo's favorite characters. Since her creation in the late 1940s, she represented, for more than a decade, the changes and tensions of Chilean society through a sharp, personal take on the role of women, relationships, fashion, urban development, consumerism, and the adoption of new habits. Drawn with mastery and great technical skill, Viborita also reflects the artistic maturity Pepo had reached. This is evident in the 80 original works included in this book, which also features in-depth research into the character's origins, along with documents and photographs that piece together the intense life of a truly unique character in Chilean comics.
This book is the first in a series aiming to recover, research and share Pepo's legacy, built over 70 years of work and spread across major national publications, spanning his roles as cartoonist, advertiser and illustrator. Gathering and studying these works is a way of honoring an artist who has shaped the national imagination and is part of our cultural heritage.
