REVIEWS
A brief, moving journal that succinctly presents the wide-ranging journey of the mother-child relationship: from an initial stage marked by protection, through the growth that leads to exploring independence, ending in a return that speaks to transformation, acceptance and unbreakable emotional bonds. With minimal text and a strong emphasis on visual storytelling, this book stands out for its simplicity, depth and harmony.

This picture book by the renowned Chilean illustrator Paloma Valdivia is about the close relationship between mother and child. At the same time, it describes the process of breaking away to develop individual personality and find one's own path. The "us" of the title is a sheep and a lamb, a mare and a foal, a big rabbit and a small one, closely connected to one another. But at some point, the child will "leap away." Both will keep growing, perhaps in very different ways and directions. Still, when they meet again — in this case, as a deer and a bird — their bond will remain unmistakable. They are, and always will be, "us." Paloma Valdivia's charming illustrations recall ink stamps and are marked by clean lines and simple, organic shapes. The design of the small square book is also wonderful: its thick book covers, thin red spine, textured matte paper and high-quality printing make "Nosotros" a pleasurable aesthetic experience.
