On August 5, 2010, in northern Chile, 33 miners were trapped 700 meters underground. For nearly 70 days, Chileans came together to carry out the largest and most successful rescue in the history of mining worldwide. On the day the miners were finally able to reach the surface safe and sound, more than 1.3 billion people watched around the world.

This book aims to pass on to new generations the story of hope, effort and perseverance of a nation in the search for, and rescue of, 33 of its own.

About the author…

Laurence Golborne Riveros (Santiago, July 11, 1961) is an industrial civil engineer from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, with management studies at Northwestern University and Stanford University. He began his career in the energy sector, working at companies such as Exxon and Gener. In 2001, he became corporate general manager of Cencosud, leading its regional expansion and establishing it as one of Latin America's leading retail conglomerates.

In 2010, he entered public service as Minister of Mining, then Energy, and later Public Works, during the first term of President Sebastián Piñera. His leadership during the historic rescue of the 33 miners trapped at the San José mine earned him national and international recognition, standing out for his management skills under extreme pressure.

Since leaving government, he has remained active in the business world, serving on the boards of companies like Ripley and SQM, and advising companies such as Salcobrand, GPS and others. He also leads investment projects in Paraguay, drawing on his experience in business, strategy and innovation in Chile and the region.
