Carnavalito del ciempies ("The Centipede's Carnavalito") is an illustrated book full of rhythm and joy, inspired by the iconic song by the Chilean group Mazapán. Written by Carmen Lavanchy and illustrated by Paloma Valdivia. In its colorful pages, we follow the steps of a fun centipede who never stops dancing. Through simple, rhyming language, little readers can sing, dance and enjoy themselves while the centipede dances "forwards and backwards." Includes a QR code to watch and listen to the song.

Authors

Carmen Lavanchy (1951), a musician and educator, seeks to connect with and captivate children through artistic expression as a way to know themselves, discover themselves, and grow. She has devoted herself to teaching in preschools, schools and universities (PUC and UAndes). She is a founder of Grupo Mazapán, with whom she has released albums, books, live performances and TV programs. She is co-author of books on musical and artistic education. She creates and hosts educational concerts (with Camerata UAndes, the Chilean National Symphony Orchestra, and Coro Cantigas). She has worked at the Curriculum and Assessment Unit, drafting national curriculum standards and study programs.

She firmly believes that both the capacity for wonder and imagination must be nurtured and cultivated in order to become more complete, more human.

Paloma Valdivia is an author, illustrator and book editor, with a design degree from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and a postgraduate degree in Illustration from the EINA School in Barcelona, Spain. Her main passions are stories, illustrations, books, and above all, children. She has received numerous awards and honors, including an honorable mention at the 2014 Bologna Children's Book Fair for Caperucita Roja, and the 2018 White Ravens Award and the 2018 Fundación Cuatrogatos award for her book Nosotros.

Paloma began her illustration career at Amanuta with her book Kiwala conoce el mar. She has been essential to the growth and development of the publishing house, having illustrated many of our books. But above all, she has been a great friend, with whom we've walked the path of building a publishing house, sharing our books abroad, taking part in workshops, seminars and fairs, and sharing experiences over the past 20 years.

Paloma has illustrated many books for Amanuta. The Kiwala collection was the publisher's very first series. She went on to illustrate Artemio y el Caleuche, La niña Violeta, Popol Vuh, El calafate, and Juegos tradicionales.

In 2012, Paloma illustrated Caperucita Roja, which received many awards, both in Chile and abroad. In 2017, Amanuta published Nosotros, one of the books Paloma both wrote and illustrated, which won the 2018 White Ravens Award and the 2018 Fundación Cuatrogatos award, and has been translated into many languages.

Also notable are her early-childhood books published by Amanuta: Cada oveja con su pareja, De paseo, Colores, Todo en su lugar, Yo tenía 10 perritos, Estaba la rana, and Una cuncuna amarilla.

At the 29th Bratislava Biennial of Illustration, the Grand Prix BIB 2023 award was given to Chilean illustrator Paloma Valdivia. The top prize was awarded for a bilingual book of questions featuring poetry by Pablo Neruda.

Paloma is a guest of honor at the 2024 Bologna Children's Book Fair, where she'll have an exhibition of 30 works in the fair's central space. She also had the honor of illustrating the cover of the fair's illustrators catalog. She was also nominated for the Hans Christian Andersen Award in 2024.
